October 2009
It’s hard to believe that September is over and now your children are in their second month of Kindergarten! During the month of October we will be covering the following curriculum in our classroom.
Religion: Baptism
- Help the children respond to God’s gift of becoming a part of His special family. We will discuss this gift with a sense of wonder and appreciation through story, discussion, activities, and sharing.
- Children will be able to express their thankfulness to God our Creator through scripture, music, and prayer.
Science: Seasons
- Discuss seasonal changes in weather and how the seasons effect our plants and animals.
Leaf Book Project
- With parental involvement, children will create a book of various leaf shapes and sizes to share with the class and be displayed during our Science Fair
Life Cycle of Apples and Pumpkins
- Children will investigate the life cycle of the apple and pumpkin. They will watch and have discussion as the teacher opens and dissects an apple and a pumpkin. Children will participate in the planting of their own apple and pumpkin seeds, watch the seeds grow under our growing lights, and experience the wonder of God’s gift of life.
Math: Geometry and Patterns
- Children will learn about spheres, cylinders, and cubes
- Identify a solid figure
- Recognize simple AB patterning and make inferences
Phonics: High Frequency Words
- Learn and recognize simple High Frequency Words
Consonant Recognition
- Identify, print, and know the sound of consonant letters Hh, Mm, Kk, Jj, Ff, and Gg
- Continue to review consonant letters Ss, Tt, and Bb
Beginning Handwriting
- Print first name and alphabet letters on lined paper
Art:
- Introduce color, line, cutting, assembly, and following directions
Dramatic Play:
- Family members are invited to attend our Halloween Show. The children will perform songs and skits
- Halloween classroom party and parade (information will follow)
