Social Studies
Dear Social Studies Students,
Social Studies is the fusion of History and current events.
All students have been issued a hard covered text book that MUST be covered at all times. You may use a paper cover or a book sock. You each have a soft cover workbook that MUST be covered in contact paper. You were also asked to purchase a sturdy notebook with a plastic cover to last all year.
There should be absolutely NO writing in the hard cover book. Only answers should be written in workbook. Notebook will contain outlines and notes from class. Notebooks should be kept neat and clean. All work is in blue/black ink and cursive writing and should be legible. Notebooks will be collected quarterly and graded so please keep books presentable at all times.
Homework will be given most nights in different forms-outlines, workbooks, reports. Homework is due the following class day unless specifically noted. Homework is important and will be incorporated in your semester grade. Some work will be graded with a specific grade and you will be advised in advance.
Work will be marked as 100% credit if work is completely done, and zero credit if it is incomplete, not done or is not turned in on time. You also have an OOPS pass and a homework pass that will give you credit for different assignments. We will go over all of these items in class for complete understanding.
History Channel/International History Channel/Military Channel reports will resume this year as extra credit reports. The students are again asked to watch a program from the channels listed. Each student is to provide a brief summary, using proper grammar, of the program.
Each brief report is to typed TNR #12, with the name of the program as title. Papers are due by the end of each quarter. Students will receive 5 points for each report submitted, with a maximum of 20 points per quarter. Parents are kindly asked to sign each report.
All students should arrive in class with all books, planner (to write homework,) pen, and homework/assignments, Weight of items: Tests 2 times, homework 2 times, quizzes 1 time, notebook 1 time, and special graded items 1 time. We will review this in class.
Again, I am very happy to be with all of you for this exciting year. I am available to help if you need it, please don’t hesitate to see me.
Let’s get started!
