Welcome to the first year of Junior High!  At St. Joseph Regional School, the sixth grade is the beginning of the student’s Junior High experience.  Here they begin to increase their level of responsibility and accountability in the areas of, spiritual development, academics, and social awareness.

Our students are encouraged to deepen their relationship with Our Lord in a variety of ways. All students take part in the sacrament of Reconciliation at least twice a year.  The class prepares one school mass during the year.  The children actively participate as lectors, altar servers, gift bearers, and cantors.  The Old Testament is studied in Religion class as well as current religious issues of interest to the students.  God is interwoven throughout our entire day, in every topic studied.

The sixth graders have a variety of competent teachers available at all times.  Math is taught at a 7th grade level in order to challenge students and prepare them for authentic life situations.  Physical Education is offered twice a week beginning this year.  Library and Computer classes are taught once a week, as well as Spanish. All academic subjects are taught in a way that encourages independent thinking and increases student accountability.  Extra assistance is available before or after school when needed.

The entire class attends a county wide anti-bullying summit every October.  This is a day filled with guest speakers who address the topic of valuing diversity as well as each person’s uniqueness.  It proves to be a rewarding, as well as humbling experience for all, empowering the students to respond to challenging situations in an appropriate manner.

Throughout the sixth grade year, many challenges are met and overcome and many successes are encountered.  We learn and grow in an environment of mutual respect. Together we journey through a wonderful, exciting, and rewarding school year, guided by the Holy Spirit each day.

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”  – Mt. 19:14
