Fourth Grade is an exciting year as the children grow toward more independence and continue to build on the skills learned in the primary grades.

Some of the activities the students look forward to throughout the year are reading biographies and dressing as that person, egg characters, book floats, and a celebration of the 100th day of school.

In addition we have a strong academic program integrated with laptops and an interactive whiteboard that encourages each child to actively participate in the learning process.  A few of the websites that the students use throughout the year are:

Specifically, in Religion we study the Ten Commandments and Beatitudes relating them to our life and discussing how through our daily actions we strive to carry out Jesus’ mission.

Our Reading program uses stories by award-winning authors to further develop reading skills that are so important to critical thinking.  In addition the “Weekly Reader” is used to discuss and debate current topics.

In Grammar the students learn more about each part of speech and then use that knowledge to develop their writing in a clear, organized, interesting way.

Math focuses on multiplying with greater numbers and long division in addition to problem solving and problem-solving strategies.  Mastering basic facts is key to success and much emphasis is placed on achieving this goal.

Fourth grade is the year for learning about New Jersey.  Mrs. Winnie Mallan, who teaches fourth grade Social Studies, does many fun projects with the children, including baking (and then eating) a New Jersey cake.

Alyssa Olsen, our Science teacher, covers many topics in Science, among them matter and rocks and minerals.  A weekly lab with hands-on experiments encourages students to hypothesize, observe, and make conclusions.

Working together, we hope to instill a love of learning and close relationship with God that each child will have for life.
