Grade 3
Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Mrs. Bath
Welcome to the third grade at St. Joseph Regional School. My name is Mrs. Bath, and I have been teaching at St. Joseph for twenty-three years. I am looking forward to having fun-filled learning experiences with
the children this year. We now have a new Smart Board for our classroom, and the stimulating activities will be endless. The children will be very involved with their learning experiences.
In religion we learn about the four marks of the church. We attend Masses and have the opportunity to receive Reconciliation.
In math, our main focus is on multiplication. We begin the year with place value. Geometry, fractions, and problem solving are also covered, as well as basic math skills.
In reading we use different types of readings as we work on decoding skills and a variety of reading strategies. Phonics is also taught as a separate subject.
Our spelling words are grouped together by sounds.
We learn the different patterns for these sounds.
During the week we use the words in a variety of activities and games.
In English we learn about different kinds of sentences, parts of speech, and good writing traits.
In social studies we study different kinds of communities and see how they grow and change. We learn about our Founding Fathers, the democracy they established, and how that democracy works.
We work in groups using the FOSS kits in science. The students investigate and experiment to find answers to questions asked.
In penmanship we focus on cursive handwriting. We find the more we use it, the better we become.
I cannot wait to begin this wonderful adventure with my new class.
