THINGS TO KNOW..
You may contact me via email anytime. chenriquez@sjccs.org
Please do not use this form of communication to relay messages about dismissal.
Take Home Folders
These folders are sent home each day with homework or notes, and should be brought back to school each day. You may use this folder to send me notes about changes in dismissal or any other concerns you may have.
Sign and Return Folders
These folders will be sent home periodically with checked homework, tests, quizzes, or graded classwork assignments. Please review each paper with your child, sign every page, and return all papers in the folder to school the next day.
Fun Friday
Every week, our “Bean Jar” starts off empty. We strive to fill it as high as possible by Friday. It gets filled by following classroom and school rules. The more beans…the more free time to play at the end of the day on Fridays.
Specials
The class has Spanish twice a week. Gym, Music, Music Expression, Art, Library, and Computers, will be held once a week. Our Gym day is Monday and the proper gym uniform is required.
Religion
Religion is taught formally through our text and informally through our prayers, Church visitations, an dour interactions with each other. This year your child will prepare and receive two Sacraments, Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. These are two milestones in the lives of your young children, and I am privileged to be a part of this. Your child will receive these sacraments at their own parish. If you are a registered member of St. Joseph Parish, Sister Regina will be in contact with you regarding meetings you’ll need to attend. If you belong to another parish, you’ll need to contact the head of the religious education program there to receive details.
Math
We will concentrate on building strong basic skills. it is beneficial if you are reviewing the basic addition and subtraction facts at home on a daily basis. Flash cards help a lot! With a strong foundation, your child will have an easier time this year learning money, time, measurement, fractions, triple digit addition and subtraction, and even multiplication!
Reading
A monthly book report will be assigned and due the last day of the month that we are in school. The format will be the same as the summer reading assignments. Encourage your child to read orally to you as well as independently. Enjoy reading time together, they love being read to as well!
Language Arts
This includes Grammar, Writing, or Phonics. We will be learning Language Arts on a daily basis.
Spelling
Students will receive 10 spelling words weekly. Homework will be given daily. 1st night, 3 times each / 2nd night, ABC order / 3rd night, sentences / 4th night, study for Friday’s test!
Handwriting
Please instill in your child neat handwriting in all assignments, including math! The children must display proper printed letters before we can move on to cursive.
Homework
Homework will be given every night. Children are now responsible for copying their homework in an assignment book. Please sign your child’s homework assignment book every night.
Behavior
Failure to follow the school or classroom rules will result in one of the following: Recess detention, sent to the principal, call home, loss of “Fun Friday” time, after school detention.
Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education.
