Welcome to 1st Grade!

Welcome to all new and perspective First Grade families. A brief summary of our curriculum and mission will follow.
All of our studies and class relationships are enhanced with Christian values. We try to model love, kindness, respect and friendship on a daily basis. Everyone is welcomed and recognized for their special gifts or talents.
The core of our First Grade program is centered on Math, Reading and Language Arts.
These areas of study are a priority. We follow the N.J. State Standards and the Core Curriculum from the Diocese of Paterson. Our program is enriched with a Young Readers Club, mentor Reading Buddies, Book-It program and many other class activities and hands-on projects.
Through mini lessons in Science we explore plants, animals, dinosaurs, good health. weather, seasons, solids and liquids. We utilize our hands-on Foss kits, the computer and basic Science experiments as a basis for our studies.
In Social Studies we learn about our family, neighborhood, town, state, county and world.
We do class projects on holidays and have “Show and Tell” themes. A variety of celebrity guests speak about their occupations and enhance our program with fun activities and discussions.
Our children learn, grow and thrive in an environment where everyone is appreciated and all are an important part of our St. Joseph School family.
